Welcome to Red Raiders Athletics!
At Miami Edison Senior High, we are committed to providing a comprehensive and rewarding athletic experience for our students.
Here’s a closer look at what you need to know to get involved:
Eligibility Requirements: Our athletes must meet rigorous standards set forth by Section 1003.43 (1), Florida Statutes, policies of the Greater Miami Athletic Conference (GMAC), and Miami-Dade County School Board rules. This ensures that our student-athletes are not only excelling on the field but also in the classroom.
Academic Performance: Academic excellence is paramount at Miami Edison Senior High. To participate in interscholastic extracurricular student athletics and activities, students must maintain an unweighted cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above on a 4.0 scale in the courses required for graduation. This ensures that our student-athletes are not only excelling on the field but also in the classroom.
Ineligibility Protocol: If a student’s GPA falls below 2.0, we have a protocol in place to help them regain eligibility. This includes signing an academic performance contract with the school and achieving a 2.0 GPA or above during the semester of ineligibility.
Medical Evaluation and Insurance: The safety and well-being of our athletes are of utmost importance. All students participating in interscholastic athletic competition must pass an annual medical evaluation and purchase the School Board’s sponsored insurance program before engaging in any athletic activities. This ensures that our athletes are physically prepared and protected while participating in sports.
Free Physicals and Birth Certificates: We understand the importance of accessibility and documentation. That’s why we offer free physical examinations on campus and assist students in obtaining necessary documentation, such as birth certificates, to ensure eligibility for competition.
College Preparation: Our Athletic Director and guidance counselor are dedicated to supporting our student-athletes in their academic and athletic pursuits. They provide assistance in planning a program of study that aligns with college entrance requirements and NCAA eligibility criteria.
Students from other Schools: Students from other schools are welcome to join our athletic programs, provided their current school does not offer a sports team. They must submit their GPA for review, and all eligibility rules still apply. We still review their academic and athletic history to ensure a smooth transition into our program.
Join us as we strive for excellence both on and off the field, cultivating well-rounded student-athletes who are prepared for success in all aspects of life.
